 How Genres Shape Discourse Communities

John Flowerdew (1993) proposed a program named English for Professional Communication (EPC) to encourage learners to develop abilities in different areas of possible professional activity. Moreover, the writer proposes activity types such as using and producing genre analysis, metacommunication, concordancing, and translation of a given genre.

On the one hand, the first three examples involve production, where students can analyze, compare and discuss, and the emphasis is on the techniques. On the other hand, the last activity mentioned is close to plagiarism if the teacher or instructor ask students to translate without any kind of guidance to check the learners' productions. The reason is because students tend to follow the internet's examples as models.
